In celebration of Chicago Artists Month, Platt Fine Art is proud to be exhibiting the work of  two contemporary Chicago artists, Catherine Cajandig and Hiroshi Ariyama.

Cajandig received her Bachelor and Master of Art Education  from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago and her Master of Fine Art  from the Instituto Allende,  University of Guajuanito, Mexico.  She served for two years as the President of the Chicago Society of Artists, as well as Vice President, Corresponding Secretary, and as a member of the Society's Board of Directors.

She has held positions in Art Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as an Art Instructor in the Chicago Public Schools, and as an Artist/Teacher in Residence at Vermont College, Montpelier, Vermont.

Her works have been widely exhibited throughout Chicago, including the Columbia College Center for Books and Paper Arts, The Illinois Art Gallery, the Illinois State Art Museum, and the Chicago Cultural Center.

Our current exhibit focuses on her linocuts produced from 1960 to 2004.  They chronicle her life, family, friends, travels, political atmosphere, favorite places and things, often employing Chicago as a backdrop.

Hiroshi Ariyama, State Street, 2006
Hiroshi Ariyama was born in Osaka, Japan in 1960, moving to Honolulu in 1972.  He studied traditional printmaking while at the University of Hawaii.   Later he moved to Chicago and earned a BFA from Columbia College.  He has spent most of his adult life in Chicago working as an art director, before being asked to run the international office of a Japanese design consultancy.  During these years he also served on the board of the Architecture and Design Society of the Art Institute of Chicago

In 2003, after nearly 20 years in the commercial world, he decided to put his energy towards fine art.  Later that same year he became a member of the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative and learned to create multi-colored screenprints using intricate stencils based on his own photography.

Platt Fine Art will be exhibiting over forty works by Cajandig and Ariyama, from October 19th to November 19th, 2007.  Gallery hours are 11am to 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and by appointment.  For information call: 773.281.2500, or email at info@plattfineart.com.

We look forward to seeing you at the show.
